Ordering a Coffee

Released on 2011-09-19 by Emily

Imagine walking into a coffee shop and ordering an extra shot decaff soya wet hot extra sugar free syrup latte. It might sound too confusing, but for the experienced coffee staff, it is a usual request and they won’t even bat an eyelid. Instead, they will know that you understand what you are ordering and you’re a coffee guy (or gal).

But as a coffee layman, you might be confused with so many options that the coffee houses provide today. I think I know a lot about coffee, but even I sometimes find myself staring at the menu board for about half an hour just to make the right decision. Once I got so confused that I ended up sheepishly ordering just a black coffee. With so many options, I sometimes get baffled! I’m sure it happens with everyone.

So if you have faced the same situation, here are a few tips for ordering coffee:

Wet coffee means no foam on the top, and flat white is a different kinda coffee from Australia that has rich cream with 2 coffee shots and flat milk. It is served with a saucer, in a cup. Latte is milky coffee, having three quarts of milk along with a shot of coffee. Cappuccino contains more foam, and contains half milk. Mocha is almost like latte, but has a single shot of coffee and another shot chocolate.

These were the basic types. There can be dozens of different coffee types (this is why we become confused, deciding the right type of coffee in coffee houses). There is a lot to add to coffee- so much so that there can be hundreds of types of coffees- both in hot and cold types.

If you ever go to a coffee house and feel confused over the right type of coffee to order, you can always ask the staff for help. They will be ready to assist you so that you can find the right flavor for your taste buds.

Once you decide the coffee to soothe your craving, you can get many add-ons with it. You can ever get sugar free syrups at some coffee shops to keep those calories under control. Choices are endless. You can add many extra flavors in your coffee.

So you see, ordering a perfect cup of coffee is also an art. With the right kind of brew and the right coffee (and chocolate) shots, you can be a coffee pro even if you have never brewed a cup yourself.
